OK, I admit it, I am pretty sad when it comes to reading hotel reviews. I find some of them absolutely hysterical and I have been known to read reviews for hotels where I have no intention of staying, just for pure entertainment value…

Whether it's Rome City Apartments hotels in New York or hostels in Kathmandu, there are some absolute rib ticklers out there. Fleas in the bed, things that go bump in the night; there are some pretty wild hotels out there.

Hotel reviews are a relatively new phenomenon and they are now incredibly popular. People post their (hopefully) unbiased opinion of a hotel or apartment where they have stayed as reference for future travellers there.

Some you have to take with a pinch of salt. After all, peoples' taste differs widely, and what may be one person's cup of tea will not necessarily be liked by another person. But by analysing the reviews you can see some real trends of opinions arising which can be very helpful such as the state of cleanliness and noise levels in the guest rooms.

So use the reviews as a helpful reference but not as the be all and end all. Do not base the final decision on what may be one person's subjective view. And have a laugh while you are at it…
